FLExTrans is a rule-based machine translation system that can quickly multiply the reach of high quality translations by adapting them into closely-related languages with similar translation goals. Many of the quality features of the base text will be retained, and, thus, it has been shown to cut the time for drafting in half, speed up consultant checking, and decrease spelling and formatting errors.

FLExTrans can draft Scripture even when the target language does not yet have any translation or other materials translated into it. Since there are still many languages without any Scripture, and many are related to languages with published Scripture, this tool may be one of the best ways to begin translation in these many remaining languages.

Further, when there is a suitable base text, FLExTrans has the potential for generating a better first draft than other methods. This is because FLExTrans makes use of all the features of the approved Scripture in the related language for drafting new Scripture. It leverages the key terms, consultant-checked exegesis, spelling, punctuation, formatting and other approved features.
