Adapt It (Windows, Linux, macOS) is a free computer program that allows a bilingual speaker to quickly create accurate draft translations from one language to another related language. Once complete, the draft translations can be imported into another program for further editing and publication; on Windows and Linux, it can also be used in collaboration with Paratext or Bibledit to automatically send updates as the user completes them.

Draft translations can be completed in about 1/3 the time of a traditional translation.

Periodic involvement of tech person to help troubleshoot, and translation consultant to check progress / help identify and correct problems.

what audiences would this tool NOT work for? 

It WOULD work for Complex (graphite) script languages, languages where foundational analysis has not been done, but NOT for mother tongue translators who have not had training in basic translation principles.

Unique Characteristics

Adapt It is a Machine Assisted Human Translation tool (MAHT), and relies only on the characteristics of related languages and a translation memory for its speed. It is very easy to start using, requiring ~1 day of training for people who have a basic understanding of computers, and requires no registration code to download / use.
